new to this world

I am not sure how to use this blog yet. My rottweiler Bull was diagnosed with cancer last week and he has surgery scheduled for sept 10 to amputate his right hind leg. I am soo worried about the cancer and how he will be as a 3 legged dog.

  1. Welcome to Tripawds! It’s a great place to come worrying about your dog and leave more informed and hopeful. I recommend searching through the various forums when you have the time.

My Doberman mix Yoda had his front right leg amputated on June 5th and even though he’s got lung mets already, he’s been living a full, energetic life since he got free of that awful tumor and recovered from the surgery! He was back at the dog park playing with other dogs a month after his amputation. He’s still going to the dog park, in fact. The lung mets haven’t slowed him down so far : D

Every dog recovers differently, at a different rate and have different hang ups along the way, but that’s the beauty of reaching out to other tripawd pawrents – we can give each other an idea of the range of what the new normal is.

Good luck experimenting with your new blog! I have not been so adventurous as to try one myself.

  2. Hi Bull,
Sorry to hear you’re joining us, I know getting the diagnosis is very worrying. The same thing happened to me, and I’m doing very well on 3 legs so far.
It’s a month since my front leg was removed and life is looking good, I’m enjoying my walks and can even chase my ball.
    Keep positive.

  3. Welcome to the blogs! Although a cancer diagnosis can be scary, you will find a TON of information on the tripawd forums and people are quite quick with responding to questions you may have. Look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

  4. Hello Bull! Sorry to find you here… but it is the best place you could come to in your situation!
I whish you lots of luck with your ampu, it is scary, but you will adjust and have a happy life thereafter.
I don’t want to sound negative, but just take into account, that your recovery could take longer than you expect… not all of us (although most if you go through the blogs!) are chasing balls after a couple of weeks…
But to be painfree is really, really good!
Good luck again, and have a pawsome recovery from surgery.
